Thesis Project – Industrially Knitted Home Textiles for the Myrskyluoto Collection

The project focused on designing commercially viable knitted products for Vepsäläinen’s Myrskyluoto living room furniture, including a knitted upholstery fabric. Inspired by the story of Myrskyluodon Maija and the Finnish archipelago, the goal was to create simple, timeless, and durable designs using natural materials and domestic production.

The work explores knitwear as an alternative to traditional woven interior textiles, combining research on material suitability, production possibilities in Finnish knitting mills, and practical design development. The resulting collection includes a knitted throw, a decorative cushion cover, and the knitted upholstery fabric.
